PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

IAN GREGSON DECLARES HIS CANDIDACY FOR BC'S GREEN PARTY NOMINATION IN VANCOUVER-HASTINGS!

Ian Gregson declares:
"I look forward to challenging Minister Joy McPhail on the failure of the NDP to fulfill its obligations to the people of East Vancouver. The NDP have delayed the implementation of a provincial Childcare strategy when it should have been initiated five or more years ago, not as an election ploy; they have ignored the growing need for electoral reform at the provincial level; and they have done nothing to prevent the increased pollution of Burrard Inlet."

Ian Gregson was born in Lancashire, England in 1962. As an accomplished athlete he represented Canada at two Paralympic Games in 1984 and 1988. In 1986 he became the first athlete with a disability to receive an athletic scholarship to Simon Fraser University. Ian has twenty years of community service to his credit, initially as a volunteer with numerous sports organisations, and now as a board member with the Adanac Housing Co-Operative and a volunteer at Franklin community elementary school in East Vancouver.

As a new media professional Ian operates the most popular web site for people that have suffered a limb loss. The web site at amputee-online.com continues to help thousands of people around the world recover from the loss of a limb. His book, "Irresistible Force - Disability Sport in Canada", was published in 1998. Ian has a BA degree in Communications, and currently works as the Information Systems coordinator reporting to the Vice President of Research at SFU.

Ian and his wife Sharon have four children ranging in age from 5 to 16 as well as one cat and numerous hamsters.

Nominations for Vancouver-Hastings constituency close at noon on Monday January 22nd, 2001, and the candidate selection meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 7th. Regular constituency membership meetings are held every Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. in the Commercial Drive area.

The Green Party of British Columbia was the first Green Party founded in North America in 1983. The party has been gaining membership and momentum in the lead up to the next provincial election. In the past year, party membership has tripled and municipal government seats were won by Greens in Vancouver, Victoria, and Bowen Island.
